Firefly Lane – Kristin Hannah
I’m all about the girlfriend novel. I’ve seen Kristin Hannah books many times, but have always discounted them as ”too fluffy.” Funny, coming from the Queen of Fluff. Anyhow, I came across this book at at a thrift store for $0.50 and couldn’t pass it up.
In this girlfriend novel, Kate Malarkey and Tully Hart meet and become best friends forever in the 8th grade, even though Tully is the coolest girl in the school and Kate is not. On the surface they are as opposite as two people can be. But, somehow, they connect and find true friendship.
This book spans a thirty year time frame. For thirty years, Tully and Kate support each other through life, and weather the storms that test all true friends. Until a single act of betrayal tears them apart and puts their friendship to the ultimate test.
Firefly Lane a well told story of two girlfriends for life. It’s a bit unrealistic, with everything that happens to the pair. It’s a bit formulaic. But it is a really well told story that will make you laugh, and ultimately, cry. I sobbed through the last two chapters. By the end, I felt like Tully and Kate were really friends of mine. I really did genuinely enjoy the book.
