Sweet Valley Confidential – Francine Pascal
I grew up in the era of Elizabeth and Jessica. I wanted to be them. I wanted to live in Sweet Valley. I devoured the Sweet Valley High series, book by book. I spent my weekly allowance on these books, and rushed out to buy each new book as it was published. So, imagine my delight, when all these years later, Francine Pascal decided to write Sweet Valley Confidential, an adult wrap up for the long time fans of the series. I was very excited for this book.
I hate to be a downer, but this book was bad. But I trudged through because I had to know how everything wrapped up in the end. Ultimately, I was glad I did. But, boy was this book hard to get through. The writing was terrible, the story didn’t keep my attention, and it all wrapped up way too easily. But it answered every question I had about Jess and Liz and all of the gang.
Despite the flaws, I am glad I read the book. It brought back so many memories. The Sweet Valley High series was such a big part of my youth that without those books, I’m not sure how much I would have read. There just weren’t a lot of books geared towards young teen girls when I was growing up. This series will always hold a special place in my heart.
