Promises to Keep – Jane Green

Promises to Keep is Jane Green’s latest novel. It is a very personal novel. It was written from the heart. Green wrote this book after her best friend passed away, too young and too soon, from cancer. You can feel her every emotion as the novel progresses. Be forewarned, you will be sobbing uncontrollably by the end.

Promises to Keep tells Callie’s story. Callie lives the life most of us want to love. Her life is pretty and perfect, with a great husband, a couple of great kids, and a white picket fence in Connecticut. Making things more difficult is Callie herself. She’s genuine and caring. Never overbearing or fake. She is the rock in her family, with friends and family alike leaning on her for support. But when the debilitating headaches start, things go downhill for Callie very quickly. Those who love her have to come to grips with what is surely to come. They have to learn to live without her.

This book was so hard to read on so many levels. It forces you to think about all of the “what ifs” in your life. It makes you think about your relationships with those around you, those you love and who love you back. This book is really genuine and raw in its emotions. A must read for Jane Green fans. Keep a box of tissues handy. You will need them.
